Okay, so there's this community called
strangefandom which I had never heard about before. (Why?!)
People who have never seen a certain TV show (called 'strangers') watch a selection of fanvids for this show, and then they write down what they think the show is probably all about.
See what four strangers had to say about Stargate Atlantis after watching three fanvids.
And don't skip the real synopsis in the beginning, because:
"There is SIGNIFICANTLY LESS KISSING on the show than you might assume from these vids"
Er, yeah. Damn!
*dies laughing*

The
mcshep_match drabble tree challenge is over. The number of contributions alone is incredible, on both sides.
Now you can decide which team rocks the most (until Sunday at midnight).
Ahem. Team Peace does, of course.
So, shoo, go. Vote for Peace!

Haven't you always wanted to drabble for peace? Today the second warm-up challenge of the
mcshep_match started. It's a drabble-tree, open for everyone, where you can drabble for peace. Or, you know, for war, if you want to. I could have mentioned that right in the beginning. But I'm biased. *points at icon* (Yes, I'm all signed up! \o/)
I blame
naye. She once mentioned metafilter, which I've been scouting regularly ever since, and which steals hours away from me at a time.
Yesterday, it pointed me towards this, a relationship Q&A with loads of comments that take euphemisms to the next level. Beyond the next level. I laughed so hard I cried, and then I had a sudden craving to go and read about John and Rodney preparing grilled cheese sandwiches for each other.
Then, today, a post leads me to interactive fiction, which I've never even heard about before. (Why?) Alabaster, a fractured fairy-tale is "the result of an experiment in open authorship". I've just started to read it-- Play it? Experience it? I'm already intrigued.
And this. NAWLZ, a stunning graphic novel, "an experiment in interactive story-telling." I've only seen/read the first part (of thirteen) so far, but the graphics and sounds are-- You'd have to see it. It's hard to put into words. And the text is-- Well, I don't think I've fully grasped what this is about yet, but that's even better than a straight-forward storyline.
And this last rec isn't from metafilter, and it's been rec'd all over the place already. But this video so hilariously funny that it can't be mentioned often enough: Total Eclipse of the Heart (The Literal Video Version). If you've tragically missed out on it so far, go watch it now.
[ETA: Hey, there's a load of literal video versions around! Here, this one isn't as funny as the Bonnie Tyler one, but also entertaining (and with better singing): Meat Loaf's I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That).]
[ETA2:
singletailwhip supplied a link to the literal version of Billy Idol's White Wedding. Thank you! It seems like music videos really were that awful in the eighties!
Aaaand, while searching youtube for more of those literal vids, I re-discovered this tiny clip which, for some reason, is even funnier in the German dubbed version, if you ask me.]
Don't you just love the cool things you can find on the net, if you just go out there and see what you encounter?

Meep! All my shows have completed their seasons and it's taken me some time to realize! Nothing new to watch anymore! First SGA, SCC, Merlin, Life and Psych, and then House, Bones, NCIS, Numb3rs, now Medium, and even Castle! (Why didn't anyone tell me that the first season was only going to be ten episodes long?)
Woe! What to watch? I really am completely lost without my shows. (And are those A LOT of shows, or what? *headdesks*)
But! I've been re-watching JAG. ( JAG! )
Also: ( Northern Exposure )
Oh, and there actually is something exciting and new going on, TV-wise, after all. ( Harper's Island )
But still, I miss all my series.

I'm back home from watching Nik Kershaw on stage! *collapses* My knees and feet are kind of dead now, but was so worth it. Look, I was ( this close )
Here's the ( playlist )
He only played three songs from his new album "You've got to Laugh" which is a shame. Don't get me wrong, it was great to hear him perform his older songs, especially the ones I wasn't expecting. 'Radio Musicola' and 'You Might' were the most pleasant surprises. But I would have loved to hear more of the more recent songs. It seems that the famous eighties things are still obligatory: The Riddle, Wouldn't It Be Good, Don Quixote, Human Racing, I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. (Of which you know at least one. Seriously, you do.)
Still, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I hope it won't be another nine years before I get the chance to see him on stage again.

Eeee!! Double, no triple Eeee!!
I just learned that this guy whose music I love beyond reason -- Really, I love it to goose-bumps-all-over singing-it-loudly-makes-me-happy levels -- is going to come to Germany. I'll get the chance to see Nik Kershaw live, and practically in my backyard, geographically speaking!! In Bochum, to be exact.
It's been eight years since I've seen him on stage. That was the experience that turned me into a fan. I've still got the ticket. <3
You might be thinking 'Hey, Nik Kershaw? That name sounds kind of familiar', which could be because you remember him from the eighties. 'The Riddle' is probably the most famous one of his songs. (It was turned into a dance track by Gigi d'Agostino a few years back.)
Yes, Nik Kershaw's albums from that time are very Eighties by sound, but ingenious nonetheless. And the ones he published after a ten-year pause in the late nineties ('15 Minutes' and 'To Be Frank'), those are awesome. It's in the lyrics-- no, the music-- no, the lyrics-- I can't decide. He's a genius with lyrics.
( Like here, in 'God Bless' )
If you have no idea who I'm going on about, but are a little curious now, I vidded Nik Kershaw's 'Fiction' for SG-1 a while back. It's an excellent example for great lyrics combined with beautiful music. (Some of you might recognize it as a song that was featured in an episode of 'Dawson's Creek' once.)
Okay, this is a long shot, but is there, by any chance, some German person out there who'd like to come with to the concert on May 16 in Bochum? I already got my ticket. I'm going to go in any case. Wild horses and so on. But it's always nice to have company on these things. *g*

This is a direct sequel for Lifted, which is a tag for Infection. This won't make much sense without reading Lifted first.
Just so you know, this is all
xparrot's fault. It's only fair that she, along with
snarkydame, did the beta work on this one. Thank you, guys!
Rated PG-13, McKay/Sheppard, with McKay/Keller, 3000 words.

A question for fellow Germans:
Has anyone seen the Tatort tonight, by any chance? I need to know if it's just me.
Was there slash? Because I saw slash, and lots of it. And snark worthy of John&Rodney, who set the standards in that department.
Also, innuendo. More than you can shake a stick at. And ( tropes! (with spoilers) )
Seriously, who wrote this? A closeted slash fan?
God, I'm shipping my Tatort detectives. *is amused*
Okay, so I could have written this entry in German, but it didn't occur to me until after the fact. Now, is that a good or a bad thing? *g*

1. Listen to podfic on your mp3 player (in 'random' mode) using headphones and a reasonably high volume setting.
2. Disentangle from mp3 player because you get a phone call.
3. Finish the call and start tinkering with your computer. Important: Entirely forget about the podfic that is still running on your mp3 player.
4. Wait.
5. Notice the music suddenly sounding from the speakers of your computer. Also notice how neither Winamp nor the Windows Media Player are up and running.
6. Open the task manager to check.
7. Twice.
8. Worry about computer viruses that cause innocent laptops to randomly start playing music.
9. Find the mp3 player lying at your feet, broadcasting the mystery music from the headphones at top volume.
10. Feel very stupid.
The vastly different volume levels of podfic and music have nearly split my eardrums on several occasions. I got (kind of) lucky this time. *g*

Eee! My shiny new website is finished *and* uploaded. And it works! I am currently amazed at my own mad skillz. Okay, fine, so it's not rocket science, but still: \o/
It's weird to think that the same pages I've been working on can be accessed by anyone with an internet connection. So, so weird! (I've got no idea why it feels different than, say, writing an LJ post, which is technically almost the same. Huh?)
Oh, and this is it:
http://www.deltacephei.com
Okay, the name is so not creative, I know. But it was so conveniently still for the taking.
OMG, I'm online! *marvels*

Whenever I haven't been fiddling with html code these last couple of weeks-- (Yes, the poll convinced me. My own shiny new website is almost done! Almost! On that note, I still very much need to get the following message off my chest: ----Die, Internet Explorer, DIE!!!---- Phew, okay, yes, feeling better now.)
Okay, what was the point of this post again? Right, I wrote, and surprisingly, it's not SGA. It's Psych! I love Psych! And I loved the season finale to an unhealthy degree.
Hence, this tag for An Evening with Mr. Yang.
3200 words, gen, PG-13, Shawn and Lassiter, humor, yet angsty (huh?).
Thank you to
naye for initial beta comments and to
snarkydame for the whole beta package!

Note to self: We are badly in need of Psych icons.

I've been pondering this-- thing for a while. Namely: putting together my own website. It's not like I already did the coding or anything... *coughs* (I'm having entirely too much fun with stylesheets and html at the moment.)
I've been wondering-- What are your reading habits? Do you visit author's websites, or do you prefer LJ?
( A little poll )
Also, loosely related: Meme, as seen basically *everywhere*:
Post a single sentence from each WIP you have (or as many as you want to pick). No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence!
From eight fics (in widely varying stages of 'done'):
---
After the third kid had fled screaming around the nearest corner, Sheppard handed Rodney his sunglasses.
---
"And blobs of orange, that must be your special people skills," John added with a grin.
---
Shawn let the sentence echo back and forth in his head a few times and decided that, coming from Lassiter, it sounded kind of like an invitation – only without the part where he actually got invited.
---
John doesn't want to spend his last minutes in a tense silence, especially not when he's spending them with Rodney.
---
"I told you not to call me during the day," Rodney hissed into the phone, prompting Zelenka, the little weasel, to turn his head and listen curiously.
---
He let the door close behind him, then leaned against the door frame, arms crossed, looking far too casual not to be incredibly tense.
---
Death reminded himself that, for a member of the alchemists’ guild, the idea of a death not involving any kind of explosion or at least a decent kaboom would probably be unusual.
---
Rodney eyed the giant ventilator at the far end of the room and said, "Do you ever get the feeling that we're stuck in a bad sci-fi movie?"

After 4x17, I figured it out, (part of) Kara's secret. Maybe we're supposed to figure this out now, maybe I'm slow, or maybe I'm extremely clever. (I usually avoid spoilers like the plague, so I've got no idea if this is common knowledge already.)

This is it, Number 20 of my Tagathon entries! One fic for each S5 episode of SGA: Done!
58037 words in total. 58037 words. That's, like, bigbang size. Holy crap.
Here is a masterlist for all twenty stories on my LJ fic list, or you can browse them using the links at the bottom of each story, starting at the beginning or at the end.
Now, for the last time, this tag for The Queen was written for the Season 5 Tagathon on
sga_episodefic. It's 1000 words of PG-13 rated, gen, Teyla-centric angst.
Thank you to
trystings for the fabulous short-notice beta!

This is a Brain Storm AU, in which Rodney takes John on that secret science presentation date.
8200 words, PG-13, McKay/Sheppard, humor, written for the S5 Tagathon on
sga_episodefic.
Similarities to the episode are a given, similarities to other Brain Storm AUs are entirely incidental, as I've managed to stop myself from reading any so far. Surprisingly little dialog was taken from the episode, but the general plot was.
A really big thank you goes to
snarkydame for the excellent (and quick!) beta job she did on this one!
